Roberts Pass
Running east from Walnut Street in London, OH, to the Roberts Pass Trailhead (which is located just east of 199 East Center Street, London, OH), Roberts Pass ends 6.8 miles later at the Wilson Road terminus where it joins the Camp Chase Trail. The Wilson Road Trailhead is located between 3145 and 3670 Wilson Road SE, West Jefferson, OH.
Roberts Pass History
On June 4, 2005, the Ohio House of representatives officially renamed this section of the Ohio to Erie Trail as “Roberts Pass” in honor of long-time FMCPT leaders, Wayne Roberts and Gene Pass. (Both were pleasantly surprised by this tribute!) The name was originally coined by Bill Young, one of the original members of FMCPT. (Though officially it is “Roberts Pass,” a section of the Ohio to Erie Trail, it is often commonly referred to as “Roberts Pass Trail.”)
Roberts Pass Trailhead
The Roberts Pass Trailhead was opened and officially dedicated on October 28, 2010. A lovely spot, with parking, benches, and waste receptacles (including “doggie bags”), future FMCPT plans include bike lockers, camping, and shower facilities!
Wilson Road Trailhead
The small trailhead at Wilson Road marks the end of Roberts Pass where it meets the Camp Chase Trail. It includes parking, benches, bike racks, waste receptacles, and a porta-potty.
Everyone Welcome
The Ohio to Erie Trail, of which Roberts Pass is a part, is a collection of multi-use trails that provide exercise and adventure to anyone who’s willing to leave the automobile behind. Bicyclists, equestrians*, skaters, hikers, families with strollers, bird watchers, walkers and nature lovers are a common sight. In the winter, the trail becomes a snowshoe and cross-country ski path. And, for those with mobility impairments, construction designs call for full compliance with ADA guidelines so that everyone has the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Ohio as the trail weaves its way across the state.
*Currently the Madison County Park District does not allow horses on the Madison County trails.
