Downtown London
From the Roberts Pass Trailhead to the Prairie Grass Trailhead, only small pieces of the trail through London, OH, have been completed. (FMCPT continues its efforts to negotiate with the Norfolk Southern Railroad to obtain rights to the low-use industrial rail spur through London.) Nevertheless, there are currently two London City Council-approved bicycle routes through the streets of London. (See maps, this page.)
London
The city of London lives up to its motto, “A Proud Heritage… A Promising Future,” by providing a friendly hometown atmosphere. The county seat of Madison County, and over 200 years young, London has a strong sense of community and takes pride in its agricultural roots, though industry and services grow strong here.
Bike-Friendly
Visitors to the quaint streets of London will find plenty of food and shopping options, from bike-friendly pizza and coffee shops to pharmacies and medical care to groceries and other supplies to hardware and banking. Some notable locations include:
• London Coffee Peddler (bike repair shop, too!)
• Phat Daddy’s Pizza & Subs (10% off with a bike helmet!)*
• Dwyer Bros. Hardware
• Madison Health (hospital & urgent care)
• Terry’s family Ice Cream Shoppe
• Los Marichis Mexican Restaurant
• Madison County Senior Center
*Phat Daddy’s installed a free-to-use do-it-yourself bike repair station next to their shop. (Be sure to thank them for their bike friendliness!).
Everyone Welcome
The Ohio to Erie Trail, of which the Prairie Grass Trail is a part, is a collection of multi-use trails that provide exercise and adventure to anyone who’s willing to leave the automobile behind. Bicyclists, equestrians*, skaters, hikers, families with strollers, bird watchers, walkers and nature lovers are a common sight. In the winter, the trail becomes a snowshoe and cross-country ski path. And, for those with mobility impairments, construction designs call for full compliance with ADA guidelines so that everyone has the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Ohio as the trail weaves its way across the state.
*Currently the Madison County Park District does not allow horses on the Madison County trails.
