Jack McDowell’s Annual Prairie Grass Trail Ride
The ride is typically led by Dave Nolin, retired Dayton Five Rivers MetroPark Conservation Director and recipient of the Jack Hanna Resource Conservation Award. But this year, Julia Cumming & Sarah Macy of the Madison Soil & Water Conservation District will be heading the event.
Bicyclists can enjoy the beauty of plants such as Prairie Dock, Butterfly Weed, Royal Catchfly, and Prairie Coneflower, and tall grasses, such as Big Bluestem and Indiangrass. Your tour begins at the rain garden at the Prairie Grass Trailhead in London, OH. Julia Cumming will introduce prairies and describe some of the plants to be found along the trail. Sarah Macy will be stationed at a prairie down the trail to talk about various topics and answer questions. This is a 11-mile ride, out and back. You will be required to stay at a 6’ social distance and wear face masks when near others and at the educational stations by the speakers. Riders will ride at their own pace – and spread out!
