Community Mural Park - London, OH
The Community Mural Park has far more to offer than just a warm welcoming to London for trail travelers from the east (from the Columbus, OH, area). It provides a pleasant respite with its beautiful “mini-park” which includes:
• Sixteen mural panels (art by local artist, Clay Hurley) displaying a visual history of the area
• Bronze plaques with descriptors for each mural
• A gorgeous garden area featuring native and pollinator plants, over 2,000 in all!
• Educational kiosks and displays (coming soon)
• Picnic table
• Bicycle rack
Launch
The Community Mural Park held its official ribbon cutting ceremony on June 30, 2023.
Background
Around 2009, an idea first developed during a conversation between Wayne Roberts with FMCPT and Van Viney, CEO of MATCO Services. It took a while, but in 2019 work began in earnest to begin construction of a “welcome” area on the east side of London. This was envisioned to compliment our beautiful “welcome” on the west side of town, the Prairie Grass Trailhead with its camping area, shelter house, and many other amenities. The original vision to create a multi-panel mural using the bricked-in windows of the old tile factory building that MATCO now owned was expanded upon to include a mini-park, a respite with benches, pleasant landscaping, and more…
VOLUNTEER A LITTLE TIME AS A CMP WEED WHACKER!
You can help. Be a part of the group effort to keep this beautiful space thriving!
Spend a couple of hours weeding our native plant area in the mini-park and earn our undying gratitude! (That’s our top pay scale!!) A Madison County Master Gardener will be on site to help everyone.
(We need your BOULDERS! If you happen to have any small, medium, or large boulders your land doesn’t need, we’d love to come get them to use in our “rock river” and about our mini-park. Let us know here: EMAIL)
